“Emma” had already been in service for HERING for several years under a leasing agreement. Since mid-September 2025, however, the locomotive had been in the workshop for extensive repair and maintenance work. It was thoroughly inspected, overhauled and prepared for its future assignments. Final work was still being completed on the morning of the handover before the locomotive could be returned to HERING in full working order.
With the transfer of vehicle keeper responsibility and the purchase of the locomotive, “Emma” is now fully owned by HERING Bahndienste GmbH. The combination of a major technical overhaul and permanent integration into the company’s fleet provides greater reliability and planning certainty for future transport and construction-site operations.
“Emma” is a Gravita Class 261 locomotive. The powerful work train locomotive is designed for a wide range of rail logistics tasks and can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h in high-speed mode. Further technical details can be found in the accompanying table.
After several years as a leased locomotive and an intensive workshop phase, “Emma” is now officially part of the HERING family. Fully overhauled and technically prepared for reliable operation, she is ready to cover many more kilometres in transport and construction-site service. She may also soon receive a new exterior design to match our locomotive “Hartmut”.
