First Vectron Dual Mode for HERING

At the end of July, the first Vectron Dual Mode locomotive was handed over to HERING Bahndienste GmbH in Munich-Allach. Provided by Northrail, the locomotive adds a highly flexible solution to our fleet for transport operations throughout Germany and for transferring our heavy rail-bound machinery.

First Vectron Dual Mode for HERING

The key advantage is its dual-mode drive: the locomotive runs electrically under overhead lines and switches to diesel operation on non-electrified sections. This allows it to access sidings, freight access tracks and construction sites that cannot easily be reached by purely electric locomotives. Time-consuming locomotive changes are no longer necessary. This simplifies transport planning, shortens operational processes and provides greater flexibility for construction-site and transfer operations. At the same time, the locomotive can operate with lower local emissions in electric mode on electrified routes.

The locomotive is the first Vectron Dual Mode G13 approved for operation in both Germany and Austria. It will primarily be used for transporting and transferring our heavy rail-bound machinery throughout Germany.

Benefits at a Glance:

  • Electric operation under overhead lines
  • Diesel operation on non-electrified sections
  • No time-consuming locomotive changes
  • Flexible access to construction sites and sidings
  • Efficient transfer of heavy rail-bound machinery
  • Approved for operation in Germany and Austria
  • Greater planning reliability for transport and construction-site operations
