Courage, Preparation and a Big Step
Their journey to Germany was carefully prepared. At the Goethe-Institut in Accra, both achieved German language level B1/B2. Even so, the move meant embracing a new country, a new language, and a new culture – far away from family and friends.
“For us, this apprenticeship at HERING is the foundation for our entire future,”
they say.
Arriving – Supported Every Step of the Way
Before starting work on site, several administrative steps had to be completed: registering their residence, opening a bank account, arranging health insurance, and applying for a tax ID. HERING actively supported them throughout the entire process. A prepared “welcome folder” containing all necessary documents, as well as personal assistance with appointments, ensured a structured and secure start.
Integration at HERING does not begin on the construction site – it begins on day one.
Apprenticeship in Concrete Construction
Clifford and Samuel are completing their apprenticeship as construction workers with a focus on reinforced concrete construction in railway and civil engineering projects. Their training includes:
- Reading formwork and reinforcement plans
- Installing reinforcement
- Properly placing and compacting concrete
- Consistently applying safety regulations
The apprenticeship lasts two years, with the option of a third year to specialize as a reinforced concrete construction worker. In parallel, they attend language courses on a regular basis to further improve their German skills.
Future Prospects
The apprenticeship salary starts at approximately €1,122 in the first year and increases to around €1,610 in the third year. After successful completion, a wide range of career opportunities opens up – from skilled worker to foreman or technician.
„We are proud to be part of the company“,
say Clifford und Samuel.
With them, HERING gains not only two future skilled professionals, but also commitment, motivation, and the courage to embrace new paths. International recruiting at HERING is not just a response to the skills shortage – it is a genuine investment in people and a shared future.
