Logistical Mastery in Tight Spaces
Preparation began on June 8 with site setup and pre-assembly of the turnouts. Under limited space conditions and in two-shift operation, the 34 turnouts—including connecting tracks—were prepared. A particular challenge: The pre-assembled turnouts had to be relocated and restacked multiple times using HERING’s crane to align with the planned construction sequence.
Three Weeks of 24/7 Operation
The main construction phase started on July 10. For three weeks, work continued around the clock: Larger block sections at the weekends and work in smaller sections on weekdays.
In addition to track renewal, precise site logistics ensured smooth operations: Two locomotives in continuous operation and one shunting locomotive in Frankfurt-Höchst for continuous material supply
On the night of August 2–3, the final turnout was welded. After completing the remaining work, the project was successfully finished in August.
Team Effort Makes It Possible
This project was made possible by the dedication of many colleagues—both on-site and behind the scenes:
- Track construction, heavy machinery, logistics
- Work preparation, project assistance, dispatch, procurement, accounting
The successful completion demonstrates what is achievable when all divisions of the HERING Group work closely together!
