The Innovation Greenhouse in Bonn-Oberkassel is a pioneering office building that combines sustainability, modern work environments, and architectural quality. Designed by GPG Architekten, the project features a striking architectural concrete facade realised by HERING Architectural Concrete. The facade was built in sandwich construction using recycled concrete (RC concrete).
Spanning approx. 3,500 m² over six floors, the building offers open office layouts based on New Work principles, a spacious green atrium with a sculptural staircase, and a publicly accessible lounge café.
The facade created by HERING covers about 1,475 m² and consists of 107 prefabricated sandwich elements. With a recycled aggregate content of around 30%, significant natural resources were conserved. A distinctive feature is the variety of surface treatments: smooth, washed, acid-etched, and blasted. Together, they create a varied, high-quality appearance that defines the building’s architectural identity.
Thanks to a high degree of factory prefabrication, the elements were installed quickly and precisely. Sustainability is reflected throughout the entire concept: the building is constructed with recycled materials and energy-efficient products, meets the German energy efficiency house standard, and is certified with both DGNB and QNG seals.
The Innovation Greenhouse stands as a model project for sustainable construction, demonstrating how RC concrete can successfully combine ecological responsibility, functional performance, and architectural quality.
