Bad Kreuznach train station – exceptional roof structures offer travellers excellent protection from the elements

The first travellers were delighted to see the official commissioning of the lifts at Bad Kreuznach train station in August 2014. As part of the barrier-free renovation of the train station, the Federal Government, Federal State and city have all invested approximately EUR 13.8 million with the aim of ensuring better mobility for the 1 million passengers getting on and off at the station each year.

The barrier-free development of the train station was implemented by way of six construction phases in total over the course of approximately 3 years. These measures also included 5 "Bodenheim light" type platform roofs made by Hering. The roofs had a total roof area of approximately 3,500 m². Sandwich trapezoidal profiled sheet panels were primarily used as roofing, as well as glass elements in individual sections, such as above staircases. The planning of the steel structure was a particular challenge for the roof structures in Bad Kreuznach. The roof structures, which were particularly complex in places, were able to be executed perfectly thanks to the outstanding engineering services provided by Hering.

A total of just 16 weeks was required to assemble all of the roofs, meaning therefore that there was nothing to get in the way of the official commissioning of the Bad Kreuznach station in summer 2014.
