The 59th concrete congress in Ulm took place from 24 - 26 February. At the congress, experts from the concrete and prefabrication industry across Europe met, to get information about the innovations in the industry and to exchange ideas.
Depending on the field of interest, every participant could attend various podium discussions and presentations. The diverse programme was rounded off with practical workshops and a trade exhibition.
On Wednesday, 25 February, the company manager, Annette Hering, presented the talk "Architectural textile-reinforced concrete facades - ecological assessment and projects under construction". The focus was on the composite material, textile-reinforced concrete, and the advantages thereof compared to steel-reinforced concrete. Hering has already implemented numerous projects with this innovative facade material, which is at least equal to conventional concrete regarding the design variety of its surface.
The aspect of sustainability plays a central role at Hering. The economic, socio-cultural and ecological company goals were highlighted by Ms Hering in her presentation. The company has repeatedly been awarded quality seals, for instance the CrefoZert for creditworthiness or the German Corporate Health Award. These successes will be taken up in future and the textile-reinforced concrete division, with characteristics complying with the requirements for sustainable construction, will be expanded.
"By utilising non-corrosive fibre glass or carbon fibre, textile-reinforced concrete is the revolutionary further development of steel-reinforced concrete ... and due to the significant saving of resources, it is possibly on its way to become the primary construction material of the future."
