Innovation Greenhouse Bonn: Sustainable Architectural Concrete Facade by HERING

The Innovation Greenhouse in Bonn-Oberkassel is a pioneering office building that combines sustainability, modern workspaces, and architectural quality. Designed by GPG Architekten, the project features a unique architectural concrete facade realised by HERING Architectural Concrete. Both the load-bearing and facing layers of the sandwich facade were produced using recycled concrete (RC concrete).

The six-storey building covers around 3,500 m² and offers open office concepts based on New Work principles, a spacious green atrium with a sculptural staircase, and a publicly accessible lounge café.

The RC concrete facade covers approx. 1,475 m² and consists of 107 precast sandwich elements. With a 30% recycled aggregate content, large quantities of natural raw materials were saved without compromising quality. Another special feature is the variety of surface finishes: depending on the building section, the facade was produced with smooth, washed, acid-etched, and blasted textures – creating a high-quality, modern, and dynamic appearance.

A high degree of prefabrication in our factory enabled quick and precise installation on site. Sustainability defines the entire concept: the building is made of recycled construction materials and energy-efficient products, constructed in line with the German energy efficiency house standard, and certified with DGNB and QNG seals.

The Innovation Greenhouse serves as a model project for sustainable construction, demonstrating how RC concrete successfully unites functionality, ecological responsibility, and architectural quality in one building.
