New Outside Appearance for the Protestant Church of Altenbach-Schriesheim

Reconstruction measures at the Protestant church in Altenbach already got underway in the spring of 2013. Due to the bell tower being in need of rehabilitation, the parish decided in favour of a complete reconstruction, for which the entire front side of the church was dismantled and rebuilt. Planning was provided by the Darmstadt-based architectural practice netzwerkarchitekten.

In the framework of this project, Hering takes charge of the cladding of new front side, which is supposed to adapt itself in optical terms to the existing church building. This is implemented by means of an architectural concrete façade made of red fair-faced concrete elements with an acidulated surface. Horizontal concealed joints contribute to the monolithic overall impression of the church. Assembly of the elements will be performed in early August.

As another constructional measure, an adjoining piece of land was purchased, which was extended into a new fore court of the church together with the already existing church garden. As a result, a new public space has been created in the centre of Altenbach, the purpose of which is to serve as a venue for both ecclesiastical and public events.
