Foundation Construction Train

New and special civil-engineering technology for railway construction

Highest track availability and short shut-down times, challenging geographies and confined spaces demand know-how, experience and high-performance as well as approved special civil-engineering technology for railway construction. That’s why we joined forces with Kirow Ardelt, the global market leader for railway cranes, and RTG Rammtechnik (BAUER Maschinen Group), the specialist for vibration, pile-driving and pressing, to develop a high-performance track-foundation laying train. With special set-up procedures and tool logistics as well as high foundation-laying performances, quality and speed, the rail-mounted carrier adapts special civil engineering processes that are employed in the field of railway construction and guarantees the sustainable, safe and cost-effective fulfilment of your requirements.

Track foundations with equipment by HERING

  • Vibration-free drilling of holes with diameters of up to 1350 mm
  • MR 105 V (SilentVibro) vibrator for the high-frequency vibrating of sheet-piling profiles of lengths of up to 15 metres
  • HRS 5 hydraulic hammer for pile driving lengths of up to 12,20 metres
  • MPU 660 sheet-piling press or MPZ for pressing sheet pilings, Z-profiles, U-profiles and light profiles of up to 15 metres in length

Fields of application for the track-foundation-laying train – WITHOUT CONSTRUCTION ROAD:

  • Realisation of bored piles using the Kelly drilling method for overhead line masts, signal brackets, noise barriers, etc.
  • Vibrating / pressing of sheet piling for securing excavations and stabilising railway embankments as well as installing girders for Berlin shoring, etc.
  • Driving in of concrete piling and casing pipes using the HRS5 hydraulic hammer
  • Installation of vibro-replacement stone columns for ground improvements in or near tracks (VIPAC method)

PERSPECTIVELY:

  • Production of bored piles using the rigid-cast-in-place method
  • Boring of cased and overlapping piles for bridge foundations and overlapping bored pile walls (front-of-wall method)
  • Realisation of single columns / diaphragm walls using the cutter-soil-mixing (CSM) and CSM DH methods as ground-improvement measures
  • Down-the-hole (DTH) hammer for drilling in rock

  • Leader for use with special civil-engineering tools (vibrator, sheet-piling press, hydraulic hammer, kelly drilling equipment, etc.)
  • Comprehensive system consisting of a carrier unit, flat-bed carriage for storing the leader and additional flat-bed carriage for transporting and setting up attachments
  • Extends up to 9,50 metres from the track axis
  • Use in superelevations of up to 160 mm
  • Hydraulic rams for support distances of up to four metres from the track axis
  • 360° swivelling around the upper carriage axis
  • Operation that keeps the opposite track free: maximum protrusion of upper carriage from the track axis is 1.55 metres
  • High foundation-laying performances, quality and speed

New Look for “Hartmut” – Our BR218 in HERING Design

Our BR218 – better known to us as “Hartmut” – has been a true one-of-a-kind on the rails for years. It was especially recognizable for its extraordinary graffiti design, which carried our company name and slogan along the tracks as a rolling work of art.

After our four-axle diesel locomotive was technically upgraded last year and equipped with a new diesel engine, the next step now follows: a visual update. Due to numerous and intensive deployments on our construction sites, the previous graffiti design has suffered considerable wear and tear. That’s why “Hartmut” is now receiving a new, slightly more understated look.

In the future, our BR218 will present itself in the clear corporate design of the HERING Group. This makes its affiliation with the company group even more immediately and unmistakably visible – modern, distinctive, and professional.

Powerful Technology in a New Design

“Hartmut” continues to impress across the board from a technical perspective as well:

  • 4-axle diesel locomotive
  • 3,000 hp output
  • Top speed: 140 km/h

A true powerhouse for demanding operations in track construction and construction site logistics.

In Service for HERING Bahndienste GmbH

Our locomotive is deployed by HERING Bahndienste GmbH, which is responsible for the entire rail construction site logistics within the HERING Group. In addition, the company also provides its services to external clients.

The range of services includes:

Construction site logistics for track construction

  • Provision of modern work train locomotives for construction train operations
  • Rental of RENS wagons for the transport of materials and equipment
  • Efficient operational planning to ensure smooth processes
  • Coordination by experienced logistics specialists directly on site

Transport of rail-bound heavy machinery

  • On-time transport of rail-bound construction machinery throughout the entire German rail network
  • Wagon-technical inspections (WTU 1–4) and logistics from a single source
  • Maximum safety and efficiency in transport and handling

Shunting Services and Last-Mile Operations

  • Shunting services at tariff stations
  • Siding operations and terminal services for construction sites and industrial facilities
  • Reliable transport of light and medium-weight freight trains
  • Last-mile transport solutions for seamless logistics in railway construction

With its new look, “Hartmut” not only highlights its technical strength, but also underscores the performance and professionalism of HERING Bahndienste GmbH.

HERING sustainability

At HERING, we see ourselves as pioneers in the field of sustainability. As early as 1996, we were the first construction company in Germany to obtain EMAS certification. Every three years, we publish an environmental statement documenting our goals and how we have achieved them. Actually, for the first time, we published a sustainability report with an integrated environmental statement in accordance with EMAS - a logical next step in view of our ecological and social responsibility. It documents how we deal internally and externally with the issues that are essential to our future viability.
