Flexible Rail Logistics with the Vectron Dual Mode

With the Vectron Dual Mode, HERING Bahndienste is operating a locomotive for the first time that can run both electrically under overhead lines and with a diesel engine. The dual-mode locomotive will be used for transport operations throughout Germany, particularly for transferring our heavy rail-bound machinery.

Its key strength becomes especially apparent on the last mile and in construction-site traffic: sidings and freight access tracks at construction sites are often not electrified. While purely electric locomotives cannot operate independently on these sections, the Vectron Dual Mode can switch to diesel operation whenever required. Once back under overhead lines, it continues in electric mode.

This eliminates time-consuming locomotive changes, enables flexible transport chains, simplifies construction-site logistics and supports reliable, cost-effective project delivery.

The locomotive is the first Vectron Dual Mode G13 approved for operation in both Germany and Austria.

Focus on sustainability

The ongoing optimisation of our fleet and machine equipment also included the installation of soot particulate filters in our locomotives, which has allowed us to reduce the emissions from transport trips. These particulate filters are part of the exhaust after-treatment systems that help improve air quality and reduce the impact that diesel combustion engines have on the environment. We also always aim to use the smallest and most economical machines possible in order to keep emissions and consumption low while minimising any harm to the environment.

When things are tight:

  • Emergency transfers
  • Spontaneous transfer trips
  • Regular transportation of all kinds of construction machinery and freight
  • Fast and reliable implementation
